Written Updates - Information for families:

Tomorrow you will receive your child's Term One Written Learning Update. It will be available digitally through MyEd BC, and you will also receive a paper copy to take home.

Students are assessed using a Proficiency Scale to describe student learning in a clear and supportive way. The proficiency scale helps families understand how their child is progressing in relation to the BC curriculum. Below is some helpful information on what each part of the scale means:

  • Emerging - Your child is beginning to develop the skill or concept. Emerging is not failing, it is the first steps in learning
  • Developing - Your child is showing growing understand but ay still need support or show inconsistency. Developing isn't 'bad', it is about a professing in early stages.
  • Proficient - Your child is consistently meeting the grade-level expectations. It reflects a solid, reliable, understanding - not perfection.
  • Extending - Your child demonstrates deeper, more complex understanding. It's about depth of thinking, not doing more work.

The scale helps us focus on learning as a journey - highlight growth, strengths, and next steps for each student.

Crisis Support During Winter Break:

  • While the holiday season is a time for celebration, it can also be a time of year when people may feel lonely, stressed, or triggered. Crisis supports resources are available online, over the phone, and in person for youth and adults.
  • Learn about mental health and substance use supports available during the holiday season on the erase mental health and substance use web page.

Celebrating ESQE
What an amazing Winter Concert put on by our students! Putting on an event like that is a team effort, teachers and students dedicating countless time to practice in addition to behind the scenes organizing! Congrats ESQE Students!

Students In Mrs. Sorensen's class read "The City of Ember" by Jeanne DuPrau. After studying the book, they went on a field trip to Pearl's Value Vintage and chose objects that reminded them of ideas from the story. Their task was to imagine that these objects were discovered many years in the future and then transform them to show how they might look after being found by a future civilization. The museum displays the artifacts they created!
